Leafs Fans Rejoice

If you are a Toronto Maple Leafs fan you finally have something to smile about. Team President Brendan Shanahan announced on Wednesday, May 20 that Mike Babcock would be the new head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Babcock is regarded as one of the best coaches in the NHL. Over his ten year career he is 786-458-223-105 good enough for a .649 winning pct. during the regular season. He has won the Stanley Cup once in 2008-2009 and been to the Western Conf Finals twice. Under Babcock, the Detroit Red Wings never missed the playoffs. The Wings finished first in their division 5 times under his tutelage.

The Leafs on the other hand have made the playoffs once in the last ten years. The last time of course being the incredible collapse at the hands of the Bruins in 2012-2013. They have had four different coaches over that span.

Reportedly, Babcock has signed an 8 year $50 million contract with the Leafs so breathe a sigh of relief Toronto, things are looking up. Now if you could just get rid of Dion Phaneuf…….
